3 Ways to Upgrade to a More Fashion-Forward Vanity Mirror

A vanity mirror is a standard bathroom fixture used when styling hair, applying makeup, shaving, and so forth. Given this primary function, practical considerations come first – good lighting, sufficient mirror space for the bathroom’s users, installation at the right height, etc. However, a vanity mirror is also an ornament for the wall and an important decorative feature of a bathroom’s sink area. If your bathroom has a builder grade mirror or one that is cracked or damaged, imagine the difference a stylish new vanity mirror could make. We’ll explore three modern mirror options that can make your bathroom special.

A Vanity Mirror with a Special Shape

Chances are, your vanity mirror is rectangular…...or maybe oval. One way to turn this utilitarian item into a focal point is by choosing a memorable shape. Large circular mirrors are becoming more and more popular. An even more dramatic and stylish option is to have an oversized circular mirror “cropped” to fit snugly into the corner above the vanity. This leaves you with an asymmetrical mirror that makes a bold statement. Other possibilities include:

  • Trapezoid

  • Diamond

  • Half Circle

  • Three Upright Rectangles in a Row

  • Tear Drop

  • Custom Asymmetrical Shape

Do you and your spouse have enough mirror space to get ready for work at the same time? If not, switching to a large mirror will not only give the space a focal point but also make things more convenient on busy mornings. You can choose mirror glass that goes from the backsplash to the ceiling and/or from wall to wall. A custom glass shop can cut the mirror to precise specifications for a good fit. Many bathrooms have surfaces that are not level, walls that are not plumb, and corners that are out of square. If you install a stock sized mirror in such a space, you might be left with awkward gaps that highlight the irregularities.

You have two general options when creating a mirrored wall in your bathroom. If you choose “entire wall installation” the mirrors will go right up to the surrounding walls with a gap of only about 1/8”. If you opt for the somewhat cheaper “wall with border” installation, a larger gap will be present.

Vanity Mirror with More Pizzazz

Most vanity mirrors have simple polished edges. This is a classic look, and it melds well with many bathroom styles. However, if you’d like a vanity mirror with a bit more pizzazz, you have options.

  • Beveled Mirror – A bevel can be cut around the perimeter of the mirror to create a subtle but decorative border. Switching to a beveled mirror above your vanity is an effective way to dress up the sink area.

  • Metal Wrapped Mirror – A custom mirror can also be wrapped in a thin metal border to create a framed effect. ABC Glass & Mirror offers metal wrapping in the following finishes: Chrome, Brushed Nickel, Matte Black, Oil-Rubbed Bronze, Satin Brass, Polished Nickel, Brushed Bronze.

Choosing a metal wrapped mirror is also a wonderful way to introduce a trending metallic into your bathroom design.
