Steps to a Modern Organic Bathroom Makeover
Modern organic interior design brings together some of the best of contemporary style and the natural world. Clean lines and modern materials are used alongside items from nature as well as profiles and textures inspired by the outdoor world. In this piece, we’ll go through steps you could take to give your bathroom a glowup in the modern organic mode.
1. Eliminate dirt and clutter from the bathroom.

A hallmark of modern design is uncluttered minimalism, and your modern organic space should be soothing and peaceful. The first step is to remove clutter and thoroughly clean the space. When cleaning, don’t forget about areas where dust and grime often accumulate like:
-
grout lines around wall, floor, and shower tiles
-
floor around and behind the commode
-
shower curb
-
light fixtures
-
interior surface of the bathroom door
There are a few ways to approach decluttering. If this is an issue in your bathroom currently, this means you’ll also want to take steps to make tidiness easier. Regardless of the present state of the bathroom, the first step is to simply cut back on how much stuff is stashed in the bathroom. Some things like empty shampoo bottles and old razors just need to be thrown away. Other items could potentially be stored in another spot. For instance, if you only use a hair dryer once a week, do you need it on the vanity counter? Or could it go in the linen closet or another cabinet?

2. Create convenient and permanent storage solutions.
Your bathroom will look much better right after you clean and declutter it, but you need to make this sustainable. For those of us who are not naturally neat and tidy, we need to make it easy to put things away and keep them organized. Hacks include:
-
in-drawer organizers
-
bins on glass shelves so you can simply keep some clutter out of sight
-
robe/towel hooks on the wall and/or shower glass
With handy storage options in place, start creating the habit of putting items in their bin or drawer rather than leaving them out on the vanity counter or floor.

3. Upgrade the shower with frameless or grid-style glass.

Two of today’s hot shower enclosure trends will look amazing in a modern organic bathroom. To emphasize the simple, sleek vibes of modern design, replace your shower curtain or old framed doors with a frameless enclosure. A clear glass barrier with minimal metal will make the room feel bigger and will allow natural light from a bathroom window to flow into the stall.
On the other hand, if you’d like an enclosure with a bit more character, opt for glass framed in black metal with a ceramic frit grid printed on its surface. While this style also has clean lines, the look hearkens back to old-fashioned windows and softens a
room’s contemporary feel. Moreover, matte black hardware pairs beautifully with the natural elements we’ll be discussing later.
4. Give the room a soothing nature-inspired color palette.
Modern organic spaces feature calm neutral shades and colors from nature. Refresh your walls with a few coats of white or cream paint and choose area rugs in a warm natural shade. You can also bring in blues and greens by way of new bath towels and/or window treatments. Take inspiration from relaxing scenes in nature and recreate this look and feel in your bathroom.

5. Integrate natural items and silhouettes.

One of the easiest ways to put the “organic” in modern organic design is by adding live plants to your décor. In a bathroom, these could go:
• in the shower
• on the vanity counter
• on wall shelves
• in large pots on the floor
• in a hanging garden on the wall
Take a little time to research and find plants that will thrive in your bathroom’s level of moisture and sunlight.
You also want to include materials like wood and stone if possible. This could mean stripping the paint off the vanity and refinishing it with just polyurethane or simply replacing your soap dish with a marble one! Keep in mind, that pieces inspired by nature are also part of this look. Since natural elements are often curved or asymmetrical, you could replace a rectangular vanity mirror with a custom mirror cut in a curved or asymmetrical shape.
