Design Trends: The Spa Inspired Bathroom
Many bathroom remodels today take inspiration from a day at the spa. In fact, this trend brings together elements from a number of 2025’s favorite home fashions, including biophilic design, health and wellness spaces, and quiet luxury. Whether you are doing a more modest makeover or a big renovation, there are opportunities for incorporating the appealing spa trend into your space. We’ll take a look at the three main regions of a bathroom – shower, sink, and commode – and consider how to give them a spa-inspired remodel.
Shower and Bath Space

While a simple built in tub with a shower head above it was once the norm, many bathrooms today offer one or more luxurious options for both washing up and relaxing. Either a frameless glass shower or a grid-style enclosure is included in luxury bathrooms today. A spa bathroom will go even further with a choice like:
• Upgrade to a steam shower by installing a steam kit and having the enclosure seal up completely. Steam enclosures also have a pivoting
transom that allows the user to let some steam escape if desired.
• Add a soaker tub elsewhere in the bathroom to complement the glass shower.
• If space allows, create a huge glass enclosure to house both a free-standing tub and the shower area.
Spa-inspired showers also offer more than a single shower head. For the main spray, rain-style shower heads, aroma-therapy add-ons, and LED lighting are attractive special features to consider. In addition, high end showers often include:
• Double shower heads
• Additional body sprays
• Hand-held sprays

Sink and Vanity
Moving to another important part of the bathroom, let’s look at how to bring spa vibes to the sink and vanity.
• In keeping with the biophillic design trend, sink basins and/or counters made of marble are popular and have a spa feel.
• Natural wood vanities and vanities made of repurposed pieces of furniture also give a bathroom a bespoke touch.
• The sink and vanity both include metal elements such as the faucet and the vanity drawer pulls. While

monochromatic metals were once the go-to look, mixed metals are now trendier. If you have hard water, consider using a brushed nickel finish that camouflages water spots near faucets and bringing in matte black or satin brass elsewhere.
Smaller adjustments can also be made to improve this part of the space, such as upgraded light fixtures, a dimmer switch, potted plants on the counter, or an essential oil diffuser. Finally, replacing a stock vanity mirror with something special can also make a huge difference:
• Custom vanity mirror with a unique shape or cut to fill the entire space above the sink.
• Metal wrapped mirror for a framed look.
• Backlit wall mirror.
Toilet Area

Perhaps the least decorative, the commode is arguably the most important bathroom appliance. The toilet itself can go beyond the ordinary if you opt for features such as:
• Bidet option
• Heated seat
• Built-in night light
• Self-cleaning
In terms of creating a spa-like aesthetic, many designers opt to hide this fixture behind a screen or partition
made of obscure glass that is acid-etched or patterned. Such a divider can be frameless, framed, or grid-style, which allows you to coordinate it with the style of the glass shower if desired.
